Kostas Grammatopoulos
(1916 - 2003)

Bio

Born in Athens. 1934: studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, registering at the Painting studio of Umberto Argyros and the Engraving studio of Yannis Kefallinos. 1940: he designed patriotic posters on the theme of the war of Italy against Greece. 1942: woodcut illustrations for more than 100 books, many of them won prizes. 1949: awarded by competition the commission of illustrating the elementary school "Reader", published by the School Textbook Organisation (1st Prize, Leuven Belgium). 1954: He continued his studies in Ecole Superieure des Beaux-Arts, in Ecole Estienne and in Ecole Metieurs d' Art. 1959-85: elected Full Professor in the Printmaking Studio of the Athens School of Fine Arts. 1972: Gold Medal for Engraving at the Florence Biennale. Works of his are in permanent exhibition as part of collections in National Galleries and public and private collections, both in Greece and abroad.
